Description: Demolition of 7 x 45m spans
of steel truss bridge over the Hunter River between Mayfield and
Kooragang Island. Demolition of 6 bridge piers supported by numerous
1m DIA Benoto piles cut 1m below mud level under strict environmental
controls. Demolition of bridge superstructure using a temporary
bridge for Pin jib crane access (two 250T pin jib crawler cranes
with dual lift of each span under detailed lift plans) Demolition
of over 200 original falsework piles embedded in mud. Relocation
of direct buried fibre optic cables. Commendation by RTA for using
three innovative techniques for bridge demolition over water without
using barges and cutting of large steel encased and steel reinforced
Benoto piles 1m below mud level and under 3 m of water without
using explosives. Design and fabrication of innovative pile cutting
device currently under patent.
